Middleton Place is such a wonderful replica of a real working plantation. The farm animals are everywhere just as you would have expected them to be in the early 1800's.

The Cooper
Meet the Cooper (a person who makes or repairs wooden casks or barrels) of Middleton Place. This wonderful man has been there every time we have visited and we ALWAYS make a point of going to see him. He is totally in character and he knows everything about Middleton Plantation and the local area during "his time". When you go, don't miss him! I have posted another picture of him here - The Cooper.

Lunch
We caught the Great Blue Heron having lunch. Watch these photos as he finds a big bullfrog, enjoys lunch and then casually walks away with a bulge in his throat and a look of satisfaction on his face. Click on the pictures to enlarge them and see better detail.
Wildlife in the Swamp
This baby Anhinga just sat right in front of us practicing drying his wings. No one had told him yet that he should be a little further from us so we got a wonderful show.
The Egrets were nesting all over the place.
We even got to see some Canadian Geese to match our Canadian friends who were with us.
I absolutely love the very regal Great Blue Heron.

More of Magnolia Gardens
We have had guests visiting all week and have tried to show them as much of the area as possible in a short bit of time. Of course I am thrilled to see it any time. I love the gardens in the spring with all the azaleas blooming.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens
I just love the shape of the old oak trees and the way they line this road. It is still early and they don't have all their leaves yet.

Tidal Creek
Once, while walking here we spotted a dolphin swimming by. I have seen hundreds of dolphin in my sailing days but that was the first and only time I had ever seen one when I was standing on land.

Marsh Home
I can't imagine a much better place to live than right on the marsh with a tidal creek. And look how they have brought in sand so they have their very own beach! You can click HERE to see the chairs in the sand.

Wisteria
I really love the way the wisteria grows wild next to the railroad tracks.
Update: I drove by yesterday and the tractor's were there and the wisteria was all gone. I have to wonder how many years it will take to come back. It will be interesting to watch.
